Opened in 2003, Oishii became not only a neighborhood favorite, but also a popular spot among staffers from UT Southwestern medical district and hardcore chowhounds who appreciated proprietor Thanh Nguyen's skills and bargain prices. After a fire, Nguyen gave his restaurant a big makeover that includes golden wall tiles from Italy and oversized Italian suspension lighting fixtures reminiscent of large bells. Favored sushi specialty items include the #42 Roll, Tribeca Roll and G Roll, but Thanh is known for producing custom sushi and fulfilling diners' special requests. Wine is half-price every Wednesday night.
