Texas teen sensation lands on impressive list alongside Amy Poehler
Isabella Rose Taylor is no stranger to the spotlight. The 14-year-old Austin-based fashion designer debuted a collection at New York Fashion Week last fall, and now she's one of Fast Company's most creative people in business.
No. 77 on the 2015 list, Taylor is celebrated "for putting the 'teen' in teen fashion," according to the article. "Taylor’s designs are edgy enough to appeal to teens, yet modest enough to appease their teachers."
Her collection of edgy yet modest looks features baby doll dresses in mini and maxi styles; rompers; graphic T-shirts; tennis skirts; and crocheted sweaters in a color palette of black, gray, blue and pink. Taylor designs for the "Isabella girl," she said during NYFW: "Tough but sweet and would never wear just one style." Her collection can be purchased at Nordstrom.
If running a fashion company as a teenager sounds tough, Taylor handles it with grace. "It's obviously a challenge, but I really don't see that as different from the same challenge all my friends face," she says.
She joins influentials like Amy Poehler, Barbara Bush, and El-P and Killer Mike (Run the Jewels). But who inspires the young designer? "I'm really inspired by artists. Some of my favorites are Willem de Kooning and Cy Twombly."
