Many of us Texans have been unprepared, gear-wise, for all the recent heavy rains, so we turned to the interwebs (to stay off the roads) to help us find rainy day essentials — umbrellas, jackets, boots and the like — that are as cute as they are practical.

We like the price ($19.99) almost as much as the polka-dot print and size of this ShedRain AirVent golf umbrella from Target. The 62-inch arc helps shield more than one from the rain, and it's advertised as tough enough to handle weather at its worst, i.e., it's nearly impossible to turn inside out.

Dallas-based Roma Boots is a company with a great story: For every pair sold, a brand new pair stuffed with educational supplies is donated to a child in need. Roma makes classic rain boots in myriad colors but also these cool, all-weather laceup versions in three heights (bootie, short and tall). The short ones are shown here, and they run $92.

St. Bernard Sports is a must-shop for all manner of sporty gear, and that includes what to wear when it rains. Better news is that everything the store carries is fashionable to boot, like this Ali Ro animal-print jacket ($330) in water-resistant microtaffeta with hood.

We Texans love our flip-flops, and Hari Mari's Dunes collection (for men and women) is designed to be water-safe. Priced at $45 per pair, they are created solely from water-resistant rubber and foam, and siping on the foot bed helps channel water away from your feet to increase grip and traction, so you don’t have to worry about sliding around in your flops. Plus $3 from each pair sold helps kids with cancer.

Technically this is "workout" gear, but Nike knows what's up: This lightweight, waterproof jacket ($100) from Nordstrom is cute enough for running around town, whether you work out or not.

Oh, Kate Spade. Aren't you clever with that "Rain Check?" message on an umbrella ($58)? We dig the cheekiness and the bubble shape. It's 38 inches in diameter, so it's sized for one.

This Roma glossy rain boot is more classic in style than the laceups, but we heart the limited edition love art pattern ($98).

If you don't want to lug around an umbrella but need to protect your precious tresses, this Patagonia Wavefarer bucket hat ($39) from St. Bernard Sports is available in many colors and patterns. It's also good for long hikes or beach days because it has 50+ UPF sun protection and a durable water-repellant finish.

Benefit just opened its first Texas shop at the Plaza at Preston Center, but you can also buy the Badgal waterproof mascara ($19) online. Another Texas newcomer, Bluemercury, located in Highland Park Village, has quite the makeup selection, including waterproof mascara from Laura Mercier ($20) and Estee Lauder ($26).

Who says costumes are only for Halloween? For their toddler boys who love to play superhero, Moms would do well with this Batman-themed raincoat from Nordstrom ($49.95).
