Beautiful Bric-a-brac
Dave Perry-Miller & Associates present 5 Dallas homes with interesting brickwork
With all of the architectural materials available today, from imported stones to reclaimed wood, brick continues to be a standout for both pragmatic and aesthetic purposes. Bricks are most regularly used for façade construction, but in many instances they are architecturally incorporated into a home to create atmosphere; define a space; or add a sort of rough-hewn, earthy, natural design.
Dave Perry-Miller & Associates present five homes that utilize interesting brickwork.
Flooring
It’s common to see bricks used for walkways, but to use them as interior flooring is striking and different. The ranch home at 11206 Wonderland Trail features a gorgeous sunroom with oversized brick flooring. The result is an indoor-outdoor vibe that’s complemented by the abundant natural light flowing in through the wall of windows.
Bedrooms and kitchens
Brick walls aren’t usually found in bedrooms, but the one at 6115 Palo Pinto Ave. might just start a new trend. This bedroom features a long brick wall accented by oversized windows. The result is a homey, cozy atmosphere that isn’t defined by the size of the space; rather, it’s created by the use of this unexpected, unrefined material. The home uses brick in other areas as well, such as the kitchen, where dark-colored bricks are used to accent the range and provide a textural contrast to the dark wood cabinets and deep brown granite countertops.
The use of brick in the kitchen is also found at 7214 Lakewood Blvd. In this home, the bricks are designed as an arch over the range, with white tiles incorporated as the backsplash. The white tiling accents the white countertops throughout the space.
Brick is also used in the kitchen at 2525 N. Pearl St. #1104, but here the design is streamlined and modern. The choice of a light-colored brick, which is utilized as the backsplash and in the accent space throughout the entire room, complements the kitchen’s granite countertops and natural palette.
Outdoor appliances
Outdoor kitchens are a popular home element, and the home at 6515 Pemberton Dr. has a beautiful space. The built-in grill features brick details that extend up and around the grill, creating an entire wall of brick that adds to the home’s old-world charm.
