This Flea Has Style
Favorite local flea market grows bigger and beyond Dallas
One of Dallas’ favorite shopping traditions has plenty of good cheer to spread this season. Flea Style — which we used to know and love as Dallas Flea — is taking up residence in Fair Park’s Automotive Building and expanding to Houston.
The next event takes place in Dallas on March 12, 2016, when the 100,000-square-foot space will be filled with goods from 200-plus artisans and small businesses. Think handmade, vintage, or other one-of-a-kind lifestyle wares for women, men, children, and pets.
Also expect live music, food trucks, a bar, and a free gift bag for the first 100 shoppers. Entry is $5 cash, although kids 12 and under get in free.
“With the overwhelming response we’ve gotten over the years, which included calls for markets in more cities, we decided it was time to expand,” founder Brittany Cobb said in a release. “We can’t wait for what 2016 will bring and look forward to occupying our new home in Fair Park, as well as to bring our concept to Houston and beyond.”
The first Houston event will take place on May 7, 2016, at Silver Street Studios. The 20,000-square-foot space will be filled with unique goods from more than 75 local vendors, plus live entertainment and stuff to eat and drink.
The Flea Style rebranding also includes a fancy new website, featuring event information and applications; photo galleries; and a blog with vendor Q&A’s, DIY projects, and other editorial content that will be refreshed between events.
Cobb’s baby has come a long way since its roots in 2009 as a one-time holiday pop-up shop. The biannual market extravaganza now welcomes more than 10,000 shoppers. There are plans to expand to another city, which Flea Style hopes to announce in late spring 2016.
