Football Season Is Here

Dave Perry-Miller & Associates present best places in Dallas to watch the game

With football season upon us, you can expect many of the bars, restaurants and entertainment areas around Dallas to be packed with excited college and pro ball fans. Which places best facilitate a spectator’s need for oversized screens, great comfort food and plenty of libations? The staff at Dave Perry-Miller & Associates share their picks for the best places in Dallas to watch the game.

Inwood Tavern
For 50 years, Inwood Tavern has been serving up drinks and proudly answering to the title of “dive bar.” The place boasts plenty of TVs for sports watching, as well as a state-of-the-art audio system that comes in handy on Friday and Saturday nights when bands and DJs take the stage.

“Inwood Tavern is a fabulous spot for football watching,” associate Melissa Rountree says. “The establishment has a huge patio and two rooms inside with multiple screens. Plus it’s close to the Park Cities, as well as one of the hottest, fastest-growing neighborhoods, Devonshire.”

Katy Trail Ice House
Katy Trail Ice House is a pet-friendly beer garden and restaurant located off of the Katy Trail. The patio has been lauded as one of the best, and the bar features more than 50 tap beers.

“It’s a laid-back place that I can go to with my friends anytime,” explains Taylor Cousins, marketing administrator for associates Mark Cain and Susie Swanson. “I love the energetic atmosphere and — most of all — the dogs!”

Milo Butterfingers
Located near Greenville Avenue and SMU Boulevard is a favorite hangout, Milo Butterfingers. This sports bar features pool, darts, foosball and 15 big-screen TVs.

“This place has a younger crowd but an old-fashioned feel,” says Remington Reece, advertising design coordinator. “It’s a great place to drink pitchers of American beer, play pool and darts, and watch your favorite teams. Milo’s is one of Upper Greenville’s hidden gems.”

Nodding Donkey
Not only does Nodding Donkey have one of the most unforgettable names in the history of sports bars, the place is expertly run by the owners of two Uptown staples: State & Allen and Nodding Donkey Uptown. Here you’ll find a robust menu, pool tables and games.

Associate Diana Stewart has this to say: “The Nodding Donkey has lots of TVs and great food. There’s also a great Bloody Mary bar on Sundays.”

Highlander Stadium
If watching high school football is your preference, then the place to be for the best experience is Highlander Stadium, the home of the Highland Park Scots. This season, the stadium unveils a new digital scoreboard. Our own associate Jennifer Miller leveraged her strong ties to the school to provide Dave Perry-Miller & Associates the opportunity to advertise on the scoreboard.

“My oldest and middle sons played together on varsity when Austin was a senior and Preston was a sophomore,” she says. “It was an amazing time in our lives for them to both be out there and sometimes blocking for each other on punt returns. Our friends used to hold up signs saying, ‘It’s Miller time!’”

Saucy Summer

Loro Asian Smokehouse bottles fan-favorite sauces for summer in Dallas

This lively salsa can now dress up dishes at home.

You can't bottle famed Texas pitmaster Aaron Franklin's meat-smoking skills, but you can bottle the sauce at Loro, his popular Asian Smokehouse founded with Uchi chef Tyson Cole. Three of the restaurant's signature sauces will be available for a limited time this summer, starting June 21 and ending July 5.

A press release promises "bold, smoke-kissed flavors" on offer during the restaurant's "Saucy Summer" event. Guests can pick them up from all Loro locations across Texas. In Dallas, that means 1812 North Haskell Ave. in East Dallas and 14999 Montfort Dr. in Addison. There are also locations in Austin and Houston.

Fans of Loro probably already know these flavors from dipping wonton chips and slathering fried chicken sandwiches.

The three sauces for sale are:

  • Tamarind BBQ: A sweet sauce that's "a little wild" thanks to spicy and fruity flavors. Ingredients include tamarind, honey, soy, pineapple, Thai sriracha, mesquite, and nam tok seasoning — usually a mix of lime, chili flakes, and other standard seasonings like salt and sugar. This one is recommended for brisket, grilled chicken, or brushing ribs in the last five minutes of cooking.
  • Loro Hot Sauce: Described as "buttery" and "chili-forward." It's also made with Thai sriracha and augmented with dried Thai chili flakes, vinegar, butter, and tallow. The recipe was made with eggs, tacos, fried rice, wings, sandwiches, and spicy spreads in mind.
  • Green Chili Salsa and Marinade: Be careful with this spicy sauce, which has a "sneaky heat." The overall tone is bright and herbal thanks to green tomato, cilantro, garlic, lime, and ginger, with soybean paste and Thai chili adding oomph. This sauce is great for marinating chicken or shrimp, but it can also be poured right on top of tacos and rice bowls or used to finish veggies and grilled fish.

Each sauce sells for $8, but shoppers can bundle three of them for $20.

Purchases can be made for dine-in or takeout via Toast. Deliveries are available via Door Dash and Uber Eats while the promotion is running. To stay on top of stock, only a certain number of sauces will be sold each day.

Whether or not guests purchase a sauce, they can use the code SAUCYSUMMER to take $10 off to-go orders placed July 3 and 4.
