Picking up the gauntlet thrown down by Delta, American Airlines is adding complimentary premium movies, TV shows, music, and games on all domestic flights that offer seat-back entertainment systems or Wi-Fi.
Nearly 300 AA planes have seat-back entertainment, representing about one-third of the airline's fleet. All American domestic aircraft and two-class regional jets offer in-flight Wi-Fi.
Beginning in August, American Airlines customers — even those seated in the dreaded coach main cabin — can watch on their own device or on the seat-back entertainment systems by downloading the American Airlines mobile app.
The menu includes more than 160 movies, including nearly 50 new releases; 300 TV shows; 700-plus music selections; and 20 games.
"American is further investing in and personalizing how our customers travel by giving them the most in-flight entertainment options onboard our aircraft," said marketing VP Fernand Fernandez in a release. "[With] onboard products like complimentary premium entertainment and snacks, American is creating a travel experience that all of our customers can enjoy."
Customers traveling on American flights can enjoy premium shows like HBO's Game of Thrones and Silicon Valley, as well as new movie releases such as Captain America: Civil War, The Boss, and The Lobster, a film that has gone almost straight to video.
