Move over, In-N-Out: Shake Shack is coming to Texas
Former Californians may have rejoiced when In-N-Out arrived in the Lone Star State, but now it's time for New Yorkers to celebrate. Shake Shack, the lunchtime destination of Manhattanites for nearly a decade, is coming to Texas. First stop: Austin.
Known for delicious burgers, crispy fries, to-die-for milkshakes (and really, really long lines), Shake Shack developed a cult-like following when it opened in New York's Madison Square Park in 2004. It has since expanded to 30 locations, with Shacks popping up along the East Coast, London and even the Middle East.
The new Shake Shack will be located next to the newly renovated Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar in Austin (currently that giant, sad hole in the ground across from Gibson Bar).
According to a release, "The Austin menu will feature all the Shake Shack classics, including beer, wine and a selection of tailor-made frozen custard concretes." For you native Texans, a concrete is a thicker, denser milkshake made out of custard.
No word on future expansion to other Texas cities. But hope springs eternal.
