New Year, New Bod
6 scorching Dallas fitness classes for achieving your best bod
Was "get in shape" at the top of your list of New Year's resolutions? West Village can help you actually keep that promise, and all without setting foot inside a traditional gym.
The Uptown neighborhood is packed with inventive, challenging, and — dare we say it? — fun fitness options, no matter what your workout goals might be. Here's a look at a few of the must-attend studios.
District Climb
Inspired by the training rituals of renowned athletes and celebrities, District Climb combines the VersaClimber with rhythmic beats in a multi-sensory studio, delivering unparalleled training that sculpts every part of your body to perfection. Not familiar with the calorie-torching VersaClimber? Many argue that it's the most effective way to get in shape, because you burn more fat in a shorter period of time while your joints enjoy zero unnecessary stress. Those who are crunched for time can rejoice: Each intense, 30-minute cardio session yields long-lasting results, regardless of your age, ability, or experience. District Climb opens on January 30, and is located next to Floyd’s Barbershop and Sushi Zushi.
Barry’s Bootcamp
L.A.-based trainer-to-the-stars Barry Jay started his one-stop-shop for a better body in 1998, and this past December, Dallas finally became a part of his FitFam. The workout itself is designed for efficiency, carefully pairing opposing muscle groups to ensure your body has a balanced workout and proper time for recovery. The intervals and strength training combinations are proven to lean and tone your body. And if you go hardcore and purchase a 50-class pack, you get some seriously cool perks: a VIP invite to all launch parties around the world, 12 VIP guest passes per year (to give to first-timer friends), invites for up to five guests at your yearly celebratory class, some "Dallas Originals" swag, and grandfather rates on your package or membership.
SoulCycle
The second outpost of this super-hot spin studio landed in the West Village in 2016, and Dallasites have been fighting for a spot on the 55 bikes ever since. Known for its club-like lighting, pulsing music, and celeb sightings — first lady Michelle Obama, Bradley Cooper, Madonna, and Lady Gaga are all devotees — SoulCycle promises an "emotional journey that runs parallel to the physical workout." The high-intensity cardio program burns between 500-700 calories in 45 minutes, while also toning upper bodies using hand weights and core-engaging choreography.
Pure Barre
Another low-impact, high-results studio is Pure Barre, where members alternate work-outs with stretching to create long, lean muscles. Concentrating on the areas women struggle with the most — hips, thighs, seat, abs, and arms — the classes also have a meditative component, allowing you to "block out life" and clear your head while you transform your body.
BuiltCo
Hate waiting for a machine? That'll never happen at this exclusive fitness center, where membership is limited to only 200 people. Dallas' only premier, five-star rated fitness center stocks the latest in custom-built strength training equipment, and also keeps its members accountable with bi-weekly assessments and body composition testing to measure progress.
Class Studios
The newest addition to West Village's array of workout wonders boasts two different approaches to getting fit: a 45-minute spin class and high-intensity, low-impact circuit training taught by former athletes and military veterans that incorporates rowing machines, weights, and plyometrics. It's getting ready to open in the spring, and will be located on the ground level of the Richards Group building.
Bonus: Dallas Fitness Ambassadors
West Village is partnering with the health-minded group for a series of fun events throughout the year. Mark your calendars now for kickboxing on February 22, Barre + Bites on March 22, and Silent Disco Yoga + Night Run on April 26. Keep an eye on West Village's social media for updates, and purchase tickets at the Dallas Fitness Ambassadors website.
And don't forget to pamper yourself after all those workouts. MiniLuxe can whip your nails into shape, while Hand & Stone Massage, Spa Habitat, and Massage Envy can provide hard-earned relief for those sore muscles.
