Meet the Stylemaker Finalists
Go on set with Dallas Stylemaker finalists as they dispense fashion advice
We are down to the final six in our second annual CultureMap Stylemaker Awards, in which we celebrate the most fashionable men and women in Dallas. From the 12 semifinalists you decided who would make it to the final round.
Speaking of the finals, now you must vote again, this time to determine the readers’ choice winner. You can vote once a day, every day, until October 13 at 11:59 pm.
Then, on October 15, we celebrate all six finalists — who put their styling skills to work in a fashion show featuring looks from Plaza at Preston Center retailers — at the big reveal party at Tootsies. Naturally you want to reserve your spot for that.
In preparation for the big reveal, we spent a day in the studio with our six finalists, photographer Hoyoung Lee, and hair and makeup artist Briana Dai of beGlammed. In between primping and posing, we got their fashion advice on what’s hot (forest green), what’s not (man buns), and the secrets to looking so perfectly put-together every day.
Watch the video to go behind the scenes at the photo shoot, and get to know the finalists a little better.
Here is more of what they had to say while on set:
Nancy Koen, 37
Co-founder, B. Stellar Jewelry
How she describes her style: I have a lot of my mother’s amazing vintage clothing, so I like to mix androgyny with lots of black.
One trend she is so over: Uggs! They’re fine for around the house, but you know who you are.
Javier Burkle, 26
Stylist
The fall trend he’s looking forward to the most: Mustard coming back as the hot color, and more structured silhouettes.
One fashion item he can’t live without: Cashmere sweaters. For men or women, even in Texas, cashmere is always perfect.
Nicole Bulcher, 28
Manager, The Bar Method and Dallas Cowboys cheerleader
How she describes her style: Laid back and easy, something I can teach in but dress up with a pop of color.
The fall trend she’s looking forward to the most: Forest green. I keep seeing it pop up in the fall stock, and I can’t wait to begin wearing it.
Julian Leaver, 34
Area director of catering for Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek and Rosewood Crescent
One trend he is so over: Man buns.
One fashion item he can’t live without: Bowties.
Kendall Eckerd, 22
Blogger, designer, and illustrator
One trend she is so over: Ribbed crop tops.
How she describes her style: A balance between comfort and expression.
Nelson Huff, 31
Sales associate at Pockets Menswear
One fashion item he can’t live without: Shoes. I have way too many, yet not quite enough.
One trend he is so over: Poorly fitted clothes. Everything needs some sort of tailoring.
