Dallas interior designers show us how it’s done at deliciously lavish event
What happens when you task teams of interior designers with interpreting a theme like local pub or Asian fusion? You’re about to find out at the upcoming Lavish event and silent auction presented by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA).
At this biannual event, design teams create beautiful vignettes using donated or repurposed items, which can be procured through a silent auction. Each design crew has a team of underwriters — for furniture, materials, and accessories —to help them with the display.
“Restaurant Row” is the theme this time around, so the designers will do their best interpretations of farm to table, French bistro, and the aforementioned Asian fusion and local pub, among others. See the fruits of their labors at the big reveal party on May 6, 6 pm, at 2616 Commerce St. in Deep Ellum.
All of the pieces in the vignettes, and dining packages, are up for grabs in the silent auction, which is handled via smart phone app (handy!). Some proceeds benefit Dwell with Dignity, a nonprofit that helps families escape poverty and homelessness through design.
A panel of judges, which includes Kate Weiser and 44 Build, evaluate the designs based on adherence to theme, creativity, concept, function, and originality. Winners are declared for most innovative, crowd favorite, and best in show. Those come with trophies and bragging rights.
Those interested in attending can purchase tickets online; they are $30 for IIDA members and $100 for general admission. That price includes snacks and sips from Dish and dessert from Kate Weiser. Hobnobbing with Dallas’ most talented interior designers is free of charge.
