Pencil in the opening of Archer Paper Goods store in Dallas' Deep Ellum
A cool new stationery and gift store concept with a unique archery theme is making its Texas debut with a shop set to open in Dallas' Deep Ellum neighborhood.
Called Archer Paper Goods, it's a small chain based in Georgia, where the first location opened in Atlanta in 2015. Two other Atlanta locations have since opened, making Deep Ellum the fourth.
True to its name, Archer is inspired by the sport of archery, incorporating vintage archery and camping aspects. The store will offer an extensive greeting card selection, desk supplies, art prints, gift wrap, books, and more.
Most uniquely: It will house a separate "pencil shop" featuring pencils from around the world, bringing something fun and colorful to the Deep Ellum neighborhood.
The owner is Dan Collier, of The Daniel Richards Group, who represents fine stationery and gift lines across the country at a wholesale level, and owns several gift-store concepts spanning from the east coast to Texas.
Those include The Merchant, a coffee shop with cards and unique gifts that he opened at 1924 Greenville Ave., in the former Plum Yoga space next door to Nora Restaurant, in November 2017.
The new store in Deep Ellum is at 2649 Main St., an enviably central location that's kitty-corner to Pecan Lodge. The building, which is about 1,200 square feet, has long been empty and boarded.
Collier says that Deep Ellum is the perfect neighborhood.
"We started looking a while ago, and loved the vibe of Deep Ellum," he says. "We felt like this was an untapped opportunity in Dallas, and like it was about to explode - and it literally did as we were looking."
The building is definitely run down, but they're going to salvage what they can, he says. "It's been boarded up for a while," he says. "The interior is getting renovated, including a new floor, but they're going to save the bones, because it's an old building, and that has historical value."
They anticipate opening in the fall.
Collier is a former buyer for chains such as Macy's and Federated who dove into the world of gift cards, paper, stationery, planners, and journals.
The Daniel Richards Group now owns and operates six retail concepts across Georgia and Texas including The Merchant and Co.; Read Shop by The Merchant, a bookstore with coffee bar serving Stumptown Coffee; Archer Paper Goods; Ace & Jack, a pet lifestyle store, and two candy concepts: Collier Candy Company and Sweet Inman’s Candies.
