Doughnuts for Denton
Hypnotic hooks up with indie roaster to give Denton doughnuts and coffee with a twist
Nearly a year in the making, Hypnotic Donuts will finally open its second doughnut shop in Denton. But this one has a little something extra: an adjoining coffee shop from Cultivar Coffee.
Cultivar will operate independently of Hypnotic within the same building, an arrangement similar to the one the indie roaster has with Good 2 Go Taco. The Denton Hypnotic will have an expanded menu too: In addition to doughnuts and chicken biscuits, there will be beer and wine, salads, and trendy poutine.
"We have always liked the cosmic vibe that the Denton Town Square, UNT and TWU campus area emanate," said Hypnotic owners Amy and James St. Peter in a release. "On our very first visit to Denton we realized it would be a great fit for us. However, we spent an additional 14 months out there talking with people, the city and business owners to make sure we would be a great fit for them."
The couple started Hypnotic Donuts in June 2010, selling from the back of a car. They graduated to a weekend-only location in a pizza shop, before opening their Garland Road location in 2012.
The Denton location, at 235 W. Hickory St., is between the UNT campus and Denton Town Square. "We love how that area is full of independent and open-minded businesses and people," said the St. Peters. "We are also excited to have Cultivar Coffee operating a full-service coffee shop within our location."
Cultivar was founded in 2009. Owners Jonathon Meadows and Nathan Shelton started roasting beans out of a friend's garage in early 2010, and they opened at Good 2 Go in 2011. At the Denton shop, they'll sell coffee beans and a menu of espresso-based drinks.
The Denton Hypnotic Donuts officially opens for business on September 3, but there will be an open house on Sunday, August 31, from 6-8 pm.
