Traveling Texas
Experts declare Texas one of the hottest travel spots of the year, and here's why
The great state of Texas has been declared one of the hottest travel destinations of the year, and much of that is due to the state's major happenings.
Orbitz released its travel forecast for 2016, predicting that Texas will be in high demand. That's not an entirely new trend, as Orbitz reports Texas has seen a 5 percent increase in domestic travel each year since 2009.
Among the top reasons to visit are two of Austin's biggest events: SXSW and the X Games. Plus, says Orbitz, those interested in the "weird" culture of the Capital City can immerse themselves in "eclectic shops, restaurants, and live music" any time of the year.
San Antonio also gets a shout-out from the travel website, which recognizes the Alamo City's growing popularity, thanks to its vibrant culture and longstanding traditions like the 125th annual Fiesta happening in April.
One last reason to put a trip to Texas on the docket: HGTV's hit show Fixer Upper. Because you simply can't visit Texas without experiencing Chip and Joanna Gaines' growing empire in Waco. (Magnolia Market at the Silos is open, and a bed and breakfast is coming soon.)
The Lone Star State joins some pretty elite company: San Francisco; Rio de Janeiro; and Tulum, Mexico will also be bursting with visitors this year.
