Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas has just the tree for holiday blingy selfies
Shield your eyes, there's a blingy new Xmas tree shimmering in downtown Dallas. It's a new one-of-a-kind sculpture in a vague tree shape, made of thousands of sparkling crystals, installed at the flagship Neiman Marcus Downtown store.
Called the Palladian Tree by Baccarat, it's an ultra-reflective sculpture made out of chandeliers by iconic French glass brand Baccarat.
As Christie's notes, chandeliers by Baccarat — which also makes tableware, paperweights, perfume bottles, and such — have always been considered works of art, produced for exhibition or commissioned by the wealthiest clientele.
Their signature is the iconic Zenith, which has a traditional chandelier shape. The Zenith has had many renditions done by famous designers such as Philippe Starck.
But this tree is comprised of two of their Le Roi Soleil ("the sun king") chandeliers, which are round balls. They describe them as a spinoff of the Zénith, although that seems like a stretch given that their spherical shape has little resemblance to the traditional elegant chandelier upside-down T. Oh well. It's their chandeliers, who are we to say.
This "tree" stacks two Le Rois on top of each other, and honestly looks more like a snowman than a tree. But the release explains that by saying it transforms the idea of the Christmas tree into a work of art.
The tree is for sale, for $400,000. It'll be on display in the store through December 24, perfect for that blingy selfie. Who wouldn't want a photo of themselves next to $400K worth of French crystal? People lined up for the similarly sparkling Cartier exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art. Dallas loves bling! Duh.
If the tree's not enough, Santa will also be available for photo ops in front of the tree from November 25-December 24.
Were you not in the market for a "tree," you could buy a Le Roi chandelier a la carte. It comes in two sizes and prices: $98,500 for the one with 24 bulbs or $148,000 for the bigger one with 40 bulbs.
Baccarat will be a theme at the downtown store throughout the holiday season, with Baccarat bars serving custom cocktails in Baccarat stemware, and dedicated holiday window installations.
