7 Dallas juice bars to get your daily fix of fruits and vegetables
All the hottest celebrities — Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Ritchie, Miranda Kerr — are juicing, so why shouldn't we? Raw juices contains lots of nutrients but few calories, and because they are delicious, they make it easy to work in extra servings of fruits and veggies daily — and feel great.
The latest craze on the health-food scene has infiltrated Dallas, and juice bars have popped up all over town. This is where we turn to quench the thirst.
Be Raw Food and Juice
Dallas' premier raw food restaurant — where everything is made with fruits, vegetables and grains — also has an amply stocked juice bar with nutrient-packed elixirs in innovative flavors. There is the obligatory green smoothie with spinach, kale, avocado and walnuts, but also the refreshing minty hemp, made with peppermint and hemp seeds, and the decadent chocolate bliss with cacao and coconut butter.
Central Market
Central Market makes a variety fresh-squeezed juices, available in 12 ounces or 36 in the produce department. Choose from classics like orange, apple or carrot, or pick up the famous green juice with celery, cucumber, spinach and parsley. Our favorites include apple beet carrot, apple lemon ginger, and the beet veggie blend with a hint of jalapeño. Because we are daily juice drinkers, we prefer the large container, which also saves precious room in the fridge.
The Gem
This juice bar offers glow-inducing one- and three-day cleanses; individual fresh-pressed juices and smoothies; Holy Kombucha on tap; and tea and coffee. Choose a Green Glow (kale, cucumber, lemon, apple, ginger) or Princess Cut (carrots, apple, ginger), or settle in for light bites such as kale, quinoa or hummus. Sip your juice in-store, or take it on the road.
The Juice Bar
The Lovers Lane juice bar offers fresh, cold-pressed juices, blends and smoothies; Holy Kombucha on tap; and wellness shots like aloe vera, chlorophyll, vitamins B12 and D3, and glucosamine. Or try the hot shot with juiced lemon, ginger and cayenne. The Juice Bar also offers locally made Groovin' on Granola and Hail Merry snacks and three pay-per-day cleanses: Day Drinker, Freelancer and Greenskeeper.
Number One/Le Jus
Arbiter of style Brian Bolke partnered with Le Jus founder Dana Card on this boutique/cafe hybrid in Highland Park Village. Drop by for an organic pressed juice and a grain-free muffin to go, or dine in and indulge in a winter fennel salad and tomato soup. To partake in a juice cleanse — four-blend Le Club or eight-blend Le Cleanse — you must reserve 48 hours in advance. We also love to belly up to the bar for a Blue Bottle Coffee.
Roots Pressed Juices
We like the convenience of online ordering, and Roots does individual juices and fortified water, detox and cleanse kits, hangover recovery kits, and cocktail mixer kits using mostly organic produce. Our favorites are the watermelon cooler and the Refresh juice with cucumber, lime, mint, apple and ginger. The best part? Order your juices today and have them delivered — in reusable containers — to your house tomorrow.
Whole Foods
The Whole Foods juice bar offers an assortment of juices and smoothies, and you can order from the menu or build your own. (Call ahead and they will bottle your healthy libations prior to your arrival.) Among the more popular juices are The Rail (jalapeño, cilantro, bell pepper, celery and carrot), Park Lane (ginger, lemon, cucumber, apple and carrot) and The Gingersnap (ginger, lime, celery and apple).
