New Dallas nonprofit BraveLove recently hosted a cocktail party to celebrate a successful ambassador campaign. BraveLove is a movement dedicated to changing the perception of adoption by acknowledging the heroism of a birth mother. The group honors the women who courageously endure nine months of pregnancy and then place the child with a family for adoption.
Guests — including Corrie Kerlin, Margaret Elizabeth McKissack, Shelton Smith, Sam Turtletaub, Grant Josey, Jay Kinderknecht, Eliot Kerlin and Frank Garrott — shared sweet treats, cocktails and discussion about BraveLove’s goal of raising awareness for adoption, in the hopes that it becomes a common path for those facing an unplanned pregnancy.
“We aim to encourage a culture that champions and supports birth moms for their brave decision, ” said BraveLove founder Ellen Porter.
BraveLove’s ambassador campaign began in November 2013. The organization mailed more than a thousand letters to individuals across Dallas, encouraging them to join the movement by becoming an ambassador. Within two months, 340 people has signed up to help fund and spread word of the campaign.
