Dallas-area housing market takes ugly turn in this week's 5 most popular stories

    Johnathan Silver
    Sep 21, 2019 | 10:00 am

Editor's note: A lot happened this week, so here's your chance to get caught up. Read on for the week's most popular headlines.

    1. This Dallas suburb's housing market is 'turning ugly,' indicates new report. By one measure, the housing market in one Dallas suburb is not sitting pretty. It ranks 33rd on a new list of the 50 U.S. housing markets that are “turning ugly.” A spot on the list indicates that conditions are ripe for a housing downturn.

    2. Dallas gets a fabulous new tiki lounge on Greenville Avenue. In the biggest tiki news since the demise of Trader Vic's, Dallas is in line to get its own dedicated tiki lounge, from a couple that are the royalty of tiki culture in town. Called Swizzle, it's a new bar-in-the-making coming to Lower Greenville.

    3. Dallas-Houston high-speed train hires company to do the design and build. The high-speed train between Dallas and Houston is still not officially official — but now it has a builder. Texas Central, the developer of the Texas Bullet Train, has signed a contract with one of the largest civil engineering contractors in the world.

    4. Dallas-Fort Worth's most festive holiday market returns with an extra gift for 2019. Shoppers now can raise their peppermint lattes to toast some good news: the Texas Christkindl Market is coming back. And it's unwrapping a new feature.

    5. Cane Rosso veterans open new Italian restaurant in downtown Dallas. The pizza is landing in downtown Dallas: Partenope Ristorante, the Southern Italian restaurant going into the historic Titche-Goettinger Building at 1900 Main St. at the northeast corner of St. Paul Street, has arrived.

Money talks at new interactive Museum of Money in downtown Dallas

The first-ever MoMoney, the Museum of Money, opens in downtown Dallas on February 20, 2026.

Dealing with money is about to become a lot more fun in Dallas when MoMoney, the Museum of Money, opens February 20.

Located at 501 Elm St., a block away from the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, the new permanent experience is designed to change how people think about and engage with money, transforming the invisible forces shaping our financial lives into something visitors can see, touch, and feel, a release says.

“MoMoney is not a lecture, and it is not a traditional museum,” said Houss El Marabti, co-founder of MoMoney, in a statement. “It is a playful, high-energy world built around one simple idea: money is too important to be intimidating and too interesting to be boring.”

Visitors will be able to move through interactive environments designed to make financial concepts memorable through experiences, rather than textbooks.

Experiences range from a currency design station and a laser maze heist to an interactive money lab. Along the way, visitors will find selfie spots, AI fortune tellers, and games for all ages.

There will also be art displays made from money, video games, displays showing how the value of the dollar has changed over the years, and more.

MoMoney’s experience is anchored by three ideas, organizers say:

    • Confidence is learnable, especially when it’s hands-on.
    • Small decisions compound, in money and in life.
    • Money isn’t taboo, it’s a tool, and it should feel approachable.

According to the release, Dallas was selected as the museum’s home due to the city’s culture of ambition, entrepreneurship, and big ideas.

The museum will be open seven days a week, with tickets starting at $25 for children and $30 for adults.

The museum is offering 50 percent off General Admission tickets for opening weekend, February 20-22, for anyone who books online.
