Bomb Factory music venue in Dallas' Deep Ellum reclaims original name

Bomb Factory is back.
Changing names of live music venues has become an art form around Dallas, and the latest is a concert hall in Deep Ellum: The venue located at 2713 Canton St. which was most recently known as Factory in Deep Ellum will now be called The Bomb Factory.
Longtime music fans will experience a sense of deja vu since The Bomb Factory was its original name. The new name represents a return to the name it once had.
The name Bomb Factory was a nod to its history: In the early 1900’s, it was a Ford automotive plant. During World War II, it became a munitions factory to support U.S. forces.
It opened in the '90s as a bare-bones warehouse music venue, boasting little in the way of heat or AC, but hosting acts such as Black Sabbath, Radiohead, and The Ramones.
It closed in 1997 and remained vacant for 20 years until 2015 when Dallas-based Westdale Real Estate reopened the warehouse as a concert venue.
It closed in 2020 due to the pandemic for 18 months, then reopened in July 2021 but, in an effort to downplay the violent connotations of having "bomb" in the name, dropped "Bomb" and rebranded it as The Factory — a decision met with some dismay. Although not nearly with the dismay that met the name change of the outdoor shed at Fair Park, currently called Dos Equis Pavilion but previously known as Starplex. For many, it will always be Starplex.
On the scale of dismay, a moderate amount was felt when Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie was renamed the rather awkward Texas Trust CU Theatre at Grand Prairie.
Little-to-no dismay occurred in 2020 when Victory Plaza in downtown Dallas was renamed PNC Plaza, for PNC Bank. And there was hardly a blip when Grandscape in The Colony's outdoor amphitheater was labeled Topo Chico Hard Seltzer Stage & Lawn at Grandscape in 2022.
The Bomb Factory is under new management, so they decided to resuscitate the original name.
“The name change has been a request from a majority of artists who have performed at the venue, and we’ve heard them loud and clear,” says Eric Bradford, Chief Operating Officer. “With the name revived, we’re ready to keep The Bomb Factory at the top of every tour stop list and beyond excited to kick off this new chapter with LCD Soundsystem, who perfectly represents The Bomb Factory’s storied place in the music scene.”
That'll start with a show starring LCD Soundsystem on April 27. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased on The Bomb Factory website, which also has a full schedule of upcoming concerts and events.
