Revolver Taco for Dallas
Fort Worth's hottest taqueria locks down Deep Ellum location for expansion
Fort Worth's most written-about taqueria, Revolver Taco Lounge, has singled out an address for its expansion into Dallas. Owner Regino Rojas had previously hinted that he wanted to open in Deep Ellum, without coming out and saying where.
He's now identified the location as 2701 Main St., which he cockily claims will be "the address for the best tacos and traditional regional cuisine in the Big D."
Revolver's plight has gone back and forth since April, when Rojas first announced that Revolver would close on June 30, due to a decision by the landlord to sell the building "without giving us an opportunity to buy the property." He declared that "we will not stay in an area where money will force you to eat what they want, drink what they want, we were not raised like that."
But then Revolver got an extension to stay at the West 7th Street location through the end of the year.
Revolver is the project of Regino and his wife, Sandra Rojas, with recipes from Regino's mother Juanita and Aunt Teresa, done in the regional style of the state of Michoacan, where the Rojas are from. They take traditional ingredients like pork and goat and elevate them by giving them special care and serving them in a white-tablecloth environment.
Sandra says that their plans have been in flux but that their goal is to have Dallas up and running before the end of the year.
"Things have been changing, and we also recently opened Campestre Chula Vista," she says, referring to their Michoacan restaurant in west Fort Worth, which is open on weekends only. "But the project in Deep Ellum has been in the works for a while and is about to be finalized. It's another location of Revolver, and it's going to be opening in the fall."
That section of Main Street, across from Pecan Lodge, is bustling: It already has High & Tight, a combination speakeasy and 1920's-era barbershop, as well as Rocket Fizz, a candy store.
