Dallas Does Derby
Lee Park Junior Conservancy sophisticates dress to thrill for Day at the Races
Dallas definitely knows how to do the derby. Just ask any of the sophisticates from the Lee Park Junior Conservancy, who got all dolled up for the fifth annual Day at the Races themed "Run for the Roses"— a nod to honorary chair Caroline Rose Hunt.
More than 500 young professionals — sporting oversized hats, super-flared dresses, and seersucker suits and bow ties — gathered at Arlington Hall at Lee Park for a day of fun and fundraising. Fueled by champagne and mint juleps, dapper gents and their elegant ladies bid on silent auction items such as jewelry, vacation packages and sports games before listening to a little jazz by Ricki Dereck.
Immediately after the Kentucky Derby race, which was broadcasted onsite, judges Blake Stephenson (Modern Luxury Dallas publisher), Cynthia Smoot (Oh So Cynthia founder), Maxine Trowbridge (Pink Memo founder) and this reporter announced the winners of the best hat, best dressed couple, and best dressed man and woman:
- Alia Reiniers took honors for best hat
- Sharla and Vladimir Stavanovic got the nod for best dressed couple
- Guy Dilger was the best dressed man
- Heather Imada nabbed the prize for best dressed woman
It was close call, however, because all of the attendees — including co-chairs Michelle Scott and Jose Reyes, KDFW Fox 4's Natalie Solis, Teffy Jacobs, Doris Jacobs, Patrick Sands, Paige Winburn, Meredith Dillon, Stephanie Barber, Billie Lee Rippey, Robert Brackbill, and Debra Keeton — were dressed to thrill.
