Each week, truck loads of watermelon, including Red Diamond, Jubilee, All Sweets, Tender Sweet Yellow, and Orange Crisp varieties, arrive at the Dallas Farmers Market. All from Texas, watermelon begin arriving at the market in early June from McAllen. As the summer heat sets in, crops begin to ripen in North Texas (Jacksonville and Canton). By August and September, there will be deliveries from Midland. There will be melons as heavy as 45 pounds, while the small Sugar Babies can be as small as 4 pounds.
