    Small Business Friendly

Dallas small businesses can find their next office space easily with this new free service

If you're a small business owner or part of a startup, this scenario might sound familiar: you've outgrown your living room or existing space, you’re tired of waiting for conference calls to connect with your remote workers, and you need to find a new place — an actual office — for your burgeoning company to call home. That’s where TenantBase comes in.

This technology-enabled commercial real estate brokerage does things a little differently, which makes it easier for small businesses and startups to find their ideal office space.

TenantBase was founded by Andy Kish, Bennett Washabaugh, and Mike Zei, and launched in Nashville in 2014 to solve the growing problem faced by small businesses and startups searching for office space. It has since expanded to four markets, including Dallas this past February. While traditional commercial real estate brokerages typically focus on companies that need larger offices, TenantBase provides support when it comes to smaller-scale commercial spaces, a niche market that was greatly in need of better support from brokerage services.

TenantBase offers its users a new experience built around technology, with a personal touch when it comes to customer service. In the same way that you might search for a new apartment or house online, you can now search for your next commercial space.

The online platform makes it easy to search by neighborhood and find potential spaces from anywhere, and once you sign up, you’ll also be connected with an in-house, local advisor who is dedicated to helping with your search. And here's the kicker: The service doesn’t cost you a dime.

"TenantBase seems to work in a very similar way to how Redfin works for buying a house. When I signed up, I was not only empowered to manage the lease process through their software but I was able to rely on [my in-house broker] for all the intangibles of a real estate deal," says Darryl Garcia of SharkNinja, a customer in Orange County, California, where TenantBase is now headquartered. "The brokerage service was great, and the software system was fantastic. I could literally sit on my couch and browse the market in the way I was used to doing when looking for houses, and I could communicate with [my broker] at any time."

That proprietary software streamlines not only the office-search process, but also lease negotiations so that you don't have to waste any time while still ensuring you get the best deal for your business. If even browsing potential offices is tough to fit into your tight schedule, TenantBase will do the searching for you. Available properties are compiled and highlighted to users in their TenantBase account based on their search preferences, making it simple to find the right office match.

Not currently in the market for commercial space? You can use TenantBase to stay updated and get customized alerts when new spaces come available. Simply sign up for free, input your criteria, sit back, and let your next office space come to you.

    Jobs report

Texas ranks among 10 best states to find a job, says new report

You have a better chance of landing a job in Texas than in most other states.

If you’re hunting for a job in Texas amid a tough employment market, you stand a better chance of landing it here than you might in other states.

A new ranking by personal finance website WalletHub of the best states for jobs puts Texas at No. 7. The Lone Star State lands at No. 2 in the economic environment category and No. 18 in the job market category.

Massachusetts tops the list, and West Virginia appears at the bottom.

To determine the most attractive states for employment, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 34 key indicators of economic health and job market strength. Ranking factors included employment growth, median annual income, and average commute time.

“Living in one of the best states for jobs can provide stable conditions for the long term, helping you ride out the fluctuations that the economy will experience in the future,” WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo says.

In September, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Texas led the U.S. in job creation with the addition of 195,600 jobs over the past 12 months.

While Abbott proclaimed Texas is “America’s jobs leader,” the state’s level of job creation has recently slowed. In June, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas noted that the state’s year-to-date job growth rate had dipped to 1.8 percent, and that even slower job growth was expected in the second half of this year.

The August unemployment rate in Texas stood at 4.1 percent, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. Throughout 2025, the monthly rate in Texas has been either four percent or 4.1 percent.

By comparison, the U.S. unemployment rate in August was 4.3 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2025, the monthly rate for the U.S. has ranged from 4 percent to 4.3 percent.

Here’s a rundown of the August unemployment rates in Texas’ four biggest metro areas:

    • Austin — 3.9 percent
    • Dallas-Fort Worth — 4.4 percent
    • San Antonio — 4.4 percent
    • Houston — 5 percent

Unemployment rates have remained steady this year despite layoffs and hiring freezes driven by economic uncertainty. However, the number of U.S. workers who’ve been without a job for at least 27 weeks has risen by 385,000 this year, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in August. That month, long-term unemployed workers accounted for about one-fourth of all unemployed workers.

An August survey by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York showed a record-low 44.9 percent of Americans were confident about finding a job if they lost their current one.
