Urban Taco Bar
Trendy new restaurant imports margaritas and craft tacos to Flower Mound
Taco fans of Flower Mound, keep an eye out for Urbano Enchilada & Taco Bar, a new restaurant opening this summer at 1121 Flower Mound Rd., next to Le Peep, in what used to be the Lazy Dogz Grill space.
Owners David and Lynne Cerda describe Urbano as a hip and trendy restaurant specializing in craft enchiladas and craft tacos. Huh, even enchiladas can be craft these days.
"It'll be a full-service restaurant with a full bar, but not your ordinary Tex-Mex establishment," David says.
They aim to achieve that via a more ambitious menu and a modern atmosphere. "The space has more of an urban, industrial vibe with brick walls and reclaimed wood," Lynne says.
David was once a general manager for the El Fenix group, and the couple previously owned and operated Mi Sueno, a traditional Tex-Mex restaurant in Argyle, where they wowed Denton County with their margaritas. But that spot didn't have the traffic they wanted. When it came time to change locations, they decided to upgrade their menu and concept as well.
"For the tacos and enchiladas, we'll have carnitas, brisket, fajitas, but we're also doing things like ahi tuna, using sushi-grade tuna, and some vegetarian options too," David says. "We'll have a full bar with beer, wine, margaritas, and more."
For tortillas, they'll offer corn and flour, and they are working out their sourcing, be it a supplier they admire or possibly making some in-house.
"We want them to be good, but you can't change it up so much that you take away from the taste," he says.
