Live/Work Balance

Fabulous Frisco apartments boast bonus of a new coworking space

CultureMap Create
Jan 15, 2020 | 12:01 pm

Frisco has been booming lately, making it no surprise that people are clamoring to live and work in Dallas' neighbor to the north. At Waterford Market, they can do both.

The stylish apartment community not only offer spacious floorplans and awesome amenities, but also a coworking space on the first floor called 25N Coworking. Add in its incredibly central location to all that Frisco has to offer, and you've got an ideal combination of live, work, and play.

Here's a look at what you'll find at Waterford Market:

Room for everyone
There are apartment homes designed to suit every type of tenant, from studios to one-, two-, and three-bedroom layouts. The professionally designed interiors have all the luxe perks, from hardwood-inspired vinyl floors to in-unit washers and dryers to USB outlets to Salto's Keyless Fob Access System for extra convenience. The high-end kitchens come complete with Whirlpool stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, undermount stainless steel sinks, and built-in wine racks, while custom elfa closets in the bedrooms make getting ready in the morning a breeze. Oh, and Waterford Market is pet-friendly, too.

More than 30,000 square feet of amenities
Imagine working out in a state-of-the-art fitness studio outfitted with Peloton bikes, that has rolling overhead doors that open to the resort-style pool and courtyard. Or lounging by the fire pit while cooking on the barbecue grills and watching TV, or playing billiards, shuffleboard, and Golden Tee in the game room. How about taking advantage of the on-demand dry cleaning service, WiFi cafes with java bar, tech lounge with private work pods, self-service dog wash, bike storage and repair area, valet trash service, package lockers, and electric-hybrid car charging stations? Waterford Market has all this and more.

All about the location
As Frisco keeps growing, so do its options for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Just steps from your front door are Frisco Fresh Market for groceries; Toyota Stadium, home of FC Dallas; and Frisco Square, where you'll find Frisco Heritage Village and Museum, the Sci-Tech Discovery Center, and Frisco Library in addition to plenty of boutiques and restaurants, all in a pedestrian-friendly layout.

Get down to (co)work
25N offers professionally designed shared workspace, private offices, and meeting rooms, with flexible pricing discounts (up to 50 percent) for Waterford Market residents. You don't have to be a resident of Waterford Market to join 25N, but who wouldn't want to be just a short jaunt from work? 25N member resources include programming and networking events, communication platforms, and business development support, along with event space, a community cafe, private phone booths, and complimentary coffee and tea.

Ready to take a tour? Visit the Waterford Market website or call 469-789-2136 to make an appointment.

Acing the competition

Caroline Garcia defeats Aryna Sabalenka to win 2022 WTA Finals title in Fort Worth

Caroline Garcia is the 2022 WTA Finals champion.

Caroline Garcia raised the trophy as 2022 WTA Finalschampion at Fort Worth's Dickies Arena on Monday, November 7. No. 6-seed Garcia defeated No. 7-seed Aryna Sabalenka 7-6(4), 6-4 before an excited crowd in the championship match.

"I really went for it and I'm really, really happy to have win my biggest title," Garcia said.

Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens of Belgium defeated defending champs Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova of Czech Republic in a nailbiter - 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 - to earn the doubles title.

The championship brought the week-long tournament to a rousing conclusion. The WTA Finals are the prestigious year-end finale for the Women’s Tennis Association, featuring the top eight singles players and doubles teams in the world.

Fort Worth hosted the tournament for the first time, October 31-November 7, after it was moved from Shenzhen, China. It's the first time the contest had been staged in North Texas, and the first time it was in the United States since 2005.

The top eight singles players who competed in a round robin-style tournament were:

No. 1 Iga Swiatek (Poland)
No. 2 Ons Jabeur (Tunisia)
No 3 Jessica Pegula (United States)
No. 4 Coco Gauff (United States)
No. 5 Maria Sakkari (Greece)
No. 6 Caroline Garcia (France)
No. 7 Aryna Sabalenka*
No. 8 Daria Kasatkina*

WTA FinalsRunner-up Sabalenka received a glass sculpture created by Sinaca Glass Studios in Fort Worth.Getty Images

The total prize money pool for the tournament is $5 million. The singles winner takes home more than $1.5 million.

In addition to receiving a slightly smaller cash prize, the runners up in both singles and doubles took home beautiful glass sculptures created by Fort Worth's Sinaca Glass Studios. Everyone left Fort Worth with a cowboy hat, also presented on-court.

Championship night brought the largest and most engaged crowd of the tournament - split down the middle, it seemed, for both Garcia and Sabalenka.

"Today's atmosphere was pretty amazing," Garcia said. "I mean the fans really, like, enjoyed a lot the show. In US it's always like this, they love tennis, just love the show they give you. Right from the beginning they were really into it and I think they helped us to bring our best tennis. They were supporting both of us, and it was really nice and really respectful for everyone."

Added Sabalenka, "The atmosphere was unbelievable. I mean, I, to be honest, I didn't expect that my support for me here, and people support me a lot here, and I really enjoyed every second playing. It was, atmosphere was unbelievable. Really."

Sabalenka had stunned the tennis world when she upset top-seed and world No. 1 Swiatek in the semifinals November 6. Swiatek had dominated the tournament - not yet losing a set - as she had dominated women's tennis all year long.

Garcia had defeated Sakkari in the semifinals to make it to the championship.

(*Per WTA style, players native to Russia and Belarus do not have their country listed.)

High-Rise News

New residential high-rise will overlook 75 near Uptown Dallas and Knox

Teresa Gubbins
Nov 7, 2022 | 3:35 pm
Oliver high-rise
StreetLights
What the world needs now is more high-rise apartments.

A residential high-rise has broken ground off US-75 between Uptown and Knox-Henderson, that's a collaboration between a Dallas developer and a Japanese real estate company.

Called The Oliver, it'll be a 19-story apartment building with 351 units, located within a bigger development called The Central, on the northeast corner of US-75 and Haskell Avenue in the space best known as the former site of the Leaning Tower.

According to a release, it'll open in 2025.

In bullet form:

  • The Central is a huge 27-acre complex from De La Vega Development with office, residential, and retail.
  • The Oliver is one part of the Central and is a project from Dallas-based StreetLights Residential and Mitsui Fudosan America, the U.S. subsidiary of Japan’s largest real estate company, Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd.

The Oliver has only just broken ground but in a statement, StreetLights VP Greg Coutant predicts nothing but great things.

"The Central will become a top destination for retailors and residents alike and we are thrilled to be part of this mixed-use community, providing a seamless interaction between cutting edge living and urban greenspaces," Coutant says. "Our goal is to design a high-quality, timeless building that enriches the lives of residents and the surrounding neighborhood."

To that end, the Oliver will contain quartz countertops, designer tile, GE grade gas appliances with some units offering a Fabita cooktop, under-cabinet beverage fridges, smart Fabita cooking appliances, 8-foot doorways, and custom lighting.

Floorplans will come in studio, one- and two-bedroom options ranging in size from 585 to 1,830 square feet. They do not say what the rent will be.

Other amenities planned for the building include:

  • coffee bar with Starbucks coffee machine
  • coworking space with TV and two private offices
  • bike storage with tool kit station
  • dog wash station with high and low wash basins for all sized dogs, blow dry station, and private covered dog park

There'll be a pool, fitness space with weights, yoga, Pilates, Echelon Reflect mirror and TV, cardio, and elliptical equipment.

Again, they've only just broken ground but if you're going to dream, then dream big.

It's not like there are any new other residential high-rises in the area, at least not right close by. You'd have to go to the Hamilton near Deep Ellum, The Case in Deep Ellum, the East Quarter coming soon to the east side of downtown, plus Hall Arts Residences in the Arts District, The National in downtown, or 3700M on McKinney. Although there is a big complex coming to Knox from Trammell Crow and Michael Dell that'll have several high-rise buildings including luxury condos and a boutique hotel.

StreetLights has multiple multifamily communities in the works in Frisco, Victory Park, Arlington, Deep Ellum, and more.

Mitsui Fudosan America has been active in the U.S. since the 1970s, and currently owns property in New York, Washington DC, Boston, Dallas, Atlanta, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Honolulu metropolitan areas, with 2,000 residential apartments and 5,300 additional units under development, as well as 741 hotel rooms, plus condo projects in New York and Washington DC.

The Central already has a residential 5-story mid-rise with 430 apartment homes called Jefferson Innova that opened in fall 2021. Rents start at $1,372 for a studio, and top out at $3527 for a 1,541-square-foot two-bedroom unit.

Other plans in the works include the addition of restaurants, which they predict will be both both fast-casual and chef-driven concepts.

Canyon Ranch

Premier wellness destination Canyon Ranch sets sights on the Hill Country for new resort

Canyon Ranch

Canyon Ranch is coming to the Hill Country in 2025.

An inspiring wellness destination brand has set its sights on the Texas Hill Country. Canyon Ranch is heading to the Austin-Hill Country area in 2025.

The new resort is the third pending Texas outpost, coming on the heels of announcements for a Fort Worth club (projected for late 2023) and a Houston club (set for 2024). Canyon Ranch is owned by Goff Capital, headquartered in Fort Worth.

With current locations in Tucson (Arizona), Lenox (Massachusetts), Woodside (California), and Las Vegas (Nevada), the resort-spa brand is in the process of introducing "urban-based clubs," such as those planned for Fort Worth and Houston, and "a digital app," in addition to the new Hill Country resort location, according to a release.

Canyon Ranch partnered with VICI Properties Inc. to secure up to $200 million in capital to develop the Austin-area resort, with construction set to start in 2023 for a projected 2025 opening.

“First and foremost, we exist to help people live better, longer. Expanding access to our resorts with the Austin location is just one part of a broader Canyon Ranch strategy to engage with our guests on a lifetime journey of wellbeing,” said Jeff Kuster, CEO of Canyon Ranch, in the release.

“Guests will soon be able to begin or continue their wellness experience at our new Canyon Ranch Clubs and be supported by our digital app. The Canyon Ranch ecosystem will surround you with insights, skills and the motivation needed to achieve true transformation. By meeting our guests where they are, Canyon Ranch can seamlessly support them no matter how or where they want to engage with us.”

The immersive, all-inclusive wellness destination brand takes a unique approach to wellbeing by prioritizing longterm solutions. Priori to a Canyon Ranch visit, guests consult with a dedicated Wellness Guide to discuss goals and intentions. The Wellness Guide then selects a personalized team of world-class advisors across a range of disciplines to introduce the guest to new practices and behaviors during their stay, all while enjoying the benefits of state-of-the-art fitness and spa facilities.
