Editor’s note: Another week has come and gone, and there’s a lot we all probably missed. But we’re looking out for you, kid. Here are the most popular stories from this past week:
1. This guy randomly vandalizes a harmless scooter in Deep Ellum. An episode of vandalism in Deep Ellum in the early morning hours on April 23 showed that scooters are not safe on the streets of Dallas. The incident, which took place in front of the bar Armoury D.E., was caught on video by the club and reveals a gang of young men who kick over a parked scooter, then stomp it once it's down.
2. Dallas Art Ball 2017 draws glitterati for French-inspired affair. On April 22, the Dallas Museum of Art hosted the 52nd annual Art Ball, its premier fundraising gala. Chairs Ann and Lee Hobson beamed as they welcomed the city’s preeminent supporters to the institution devoted to unfettered access to art for all. No doubt they also were tickled to see starlet Anne Hathaway among the well-heeled guests on this breezy spring evening.
3. Art Ball 2017: Dallas’ best dressed understand the art of style. Art Ball is one of the few events each year in Dallas that's guaranteed to be a fashion show. The 2017 edition was one of the more colorful, with gowns in an array of hues and patterns — a few as artful as the Dallas Museum of Art itself.
4. Dallas high school ranks among 10 best in nation — and No. 1 in Texas. Dallas' School for the Talented and Gifted is no stranger to accolades, and now it can add one more to its trophy shelf. U.S. News & World Report recently named it not only the No. 1 high school in Texas, but the fourth-best in the nation.
5. Oak Cliff restaurant El Corazon de Tejas is closing after all. Despite protests to the contrary, Oak Cliff Tex-Mex restaurant El Corazon de Tejas is on the verge of closing, and definitely in the near-term future. John Cuellar, who owns El Corazon with his wife, Susan, says that the restaurant will close on April 30, pending the sale of the building.
