    Deep Ellum Open Market tops the best food and drink events in Dallas

    It’s a rainy week, perfect for nesting after work and catching up on Netflix. But if you’re itching to get out of the house and get a little foody, there are options. You can learn how to cook seasonal Italian courtesy of some Brooklyn chefs, or explore an outdoor market that’s indoors, of all places. Plus Flying Saucer in Addison hosts its third annual BrewBQ with some rare Texas beers.

    Franny’s Cooking Class at Central Market: Simple, Seasonal Italian
    Chef Andrew Feinberg and wine director Francine Stephens own Franny’s in Brooklyn. They are in Dallas to teach the techniques that got them named to Newsweek’s “101 Best Places to Eat in the World.” The pair shows you how to prepare seasonal Italian dishes like crostino of whipped eggplant and anchovy, squid with lovage salsa verde, and spaghetti with chiles, herbs and ricotta. Seats are $65 and include a copy of Franny’s Simple, Seasonal, Italian cookbook. The class begins at 6:30 pm.

    Landmark Global Wine Dinner
    The Landmark Dine and Wine Bar at the Warwick Melrose hosts a globally inspired four-course wine dinner with a reception at 6:30 and dinner at 7 pm. Danni Simross from Quintessential Wines presents the pairings. Dishes include grilled Thai shrimp and wakame salad paired with 2012 Gustave Lorentze Le Rose from France and a grilled Cervena venison medallion with celery root mousseline, baby heirloom carrots and a red wine reduction paired with 2009 Bianchi Particular Malbec from Argentina. Reservations are $85 per person and can be made online or 214-224-3152.

    Cook Hall and Four Corners Beer Dinner
    Cook Hall hosts Four Corners Brewery for a five-course beer dinner. Courses include baby octopus salad with rosemary and olives paired with Paletero Pale Ale, pork belly sliders paired with El Chingon IPA, and braised short rib with fried summer squash paired with Red’s Roja American Amber. Seats are $55 per person and can be had at 214-397-4111.

    Third Anniversary Indoor Party for Deep Ellum Outdoor Market
    The Deep Ellum Outdoor Market heads inside at 2633 Main St. from 11 am to 5 pm to celebrate the event's third anniversary. Check out local vendors, listen to live music, browse the vintage goods, partake in the beer garden and food trucks, and enjoy a petting zoo.

    Flying Saucer Third Annual BeerBQ
    The Flying Saucer in Addison hosts its third annual BeerBQ from 1 to 6 pm. Besides offering food specials like barbecue brisket bratzel and deep fried brat dogs throughout the afternoon, Flying Saucer has a bevy of rare Texas beers, including brews from Real Ale’s Mysterium Verum series like Volume XV and Highlander, as well as Saint Arnold Brewing’s Bishop Barrels No. 2 and No. 3 and Divine Reserve casks from the last two years.

    Sweet Paris crepe chain folds in another Dallas location in Addison

    Sweet crepes are coming to Addison via Sweet Paris Crêperie & Café, the Houston-based crêpes chain, which is opening a location in Prestonwood Place, at 5290 Belt Line Rd. #110, with doors expected to open in early 2026.

    Sweet Paris was founded in Houston in 2012 by Ivan and Allison Chavez with a mission to revive the art of eating crepes. There's a location in Southlake, which opened in 2024, and another in McKinney, which just opened in June. (There's also a location coming soon to Dallas' Snider Plaza.)

    The menu offers 20 crepes in varieties savory and sweet including dulce de leche, lemon & sugar, s'mores, chicken enchilada, Philly cheesesteak, and a vegan option with portobello mushrooms, black bean purée, corn salsa, and chipotle sauce.

    While crepes are the signature, they also serve waffles, egg breakfasts, panini, and salads. A "croque madame" crepe has scrambled eggs, gruyère, smoked ham, & béchamel sauce, while an Alaskan has smoked salmon, pickled red onions, capers, and scrambled eggs, topped with dill sour cream, & scallions. Everything is $20 or less.

    They also serve beer and wine, mimosas, milkshakes, espresso drinks such as lattes, and hot chocolate.

    This new location marks the third of four units to be developed by franchisee duo Ludo and Yi Le Gall.

    “We fell in love with Sweet Paris the moment we discovered it,” Ludo says in a statement. “Bringing this unique experience to Texans has been a dream come true, and we’re thrilled to grow our presence throughout the state with a new location in Addison.”

    Situated within Restaurant Row at Belt Line & Montford, Prestonwood Place includes hot hot restaurants like Mendocino Farms, Flower Child, Loro, Postino, Original Pancake House, and more. All it was missing was crepes. Now that niche has been filled by Sweet Paris, with crêpes, coffee, and charm.

    Sweet Paris Crêperie & Café has been growing and now has 21 stores in operation in Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, Texas, and Mexico.
