Through The Wardrobe
New Dallas boutique from Milk & Honey's owner is a fashionista's fantasy
Dallas fashionistas are flocking to the newly opened Lion & Witch at The Shops of Highland Park, a boutique that’s bold and trendy with a fairytale twist.
Founder and buyer Brittany York, owner of Milk & Honey Boutique on Henderson Avenue, has done it again with sister store Lion & Witch. Inspired by C.S. Lewis’ beloved novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, York dropped the articles from the title and allowed the store to fill in the blanks: Lion & Witch was born.
The store lives up to its inspiration — from the street, it’s a bit enigmatic. An impressive black wardrobe, handcrafted by Dallas artist Gary Buckner of Stash Designs, is flanked by crisp white walls that conceal the treasures from passersby.
Stepping through Buckner’s wardrobe, you suddenly feel as if time means something different. There’s no hustle and bustle of the street to distract from the hand-selected pieces that cascade from their copper hangers.
Equal parts bold and soft, the store, its offerings and even its décor evoke modernity and femininity with a chic and sometimes avant-garde edge. Ready to channel your inner rock star or jazz up your work wardrobe? York has personally selected a range of items that work for day, night and anytime in between.
Lion & Witch offers shoppers a touch of elegance with budget-friendly prices. Everything from brightly patterned minis and graphic tanks to Instagram-worthy hats and sexy lingerie can be found on the zigzag racks that snake through the center of the store. Featured lines include Kris Nations Jewelry, Do + Be, Cameo, Style Stalker, Amanda Uprichard and private label, b. york, York’s newest project.
Mysterious yet inviting, where every shopper is greeted with a warm welcome from the staff, the store embodies the quote from its namesake novel — lit in neon and hanging inside — “it was as one remembers a dream.”
