    Spoiler alert! Expert predictions for Project Runway season 13 finale

    Heidi Klum stood before a large, excited crowd at New York's Lincoln Center. "Welcome to the Project Runway finale, season 13," she said. "Who would have thought so many seasons ago we would still be on the air?"

     

    Like a well-oiled sewing machine, the reality show that revolves around devious designers and juicy backstage drama just keeps chugging along. This season hasn't been one of its strongest; the designers aren't especially talented, and they seem unusually whiny — even by reality TV standards.

     

    But once New York Fashion Week rolls around, the drama intensifies, and all the things that make the show so addictive fall into place.

     

    That was the case when nine of the remaining contestants showed their collections to an appreciative audience that included Olympic great Lindsey Vonn and Project Runway guest judge Emmy Rossum.

     

    "They really worked their booties off," Klum said about the contestants. "Most of the big designers have months and months and months to spend making a collection for New York Fashion Week. Ours only had four weeks and $9,000, which probably seems hard to do.

     

    "I don't know how they make it happen, but they make it happen. And that's what we're about to see."

     

     Too many contestants
    As we have noted before in previous seasons, because Fashion Week rolls around long before the competition has been whittled down to the final three (or four), Lifetime films all of the remaining contestants while the show is being aired. In this case, the audience had to sit through 90 looks from a whopping nine designers, including the collection of Fäde Zu Grau, who was eliminated last week after the runway show took place.

     

    So who will be among the final three (or four) on the season finale, scheduled to air October 23?

     

    From observing previous PR Fashion Week tapings, designers often offer clues about the outcome, because they already know if they have made it to the end or not. They sometimes look dejected or are overly emotional when talking to the audience, which usually means they didn't make it.

     

    This time around, though, most of the remaining designers kept their feelings in check — except for blubbery Korina Emmerich, who is always on emotional overload, so it's hard to detect whether she is a finalist or not. Her cohesive collection of colorblocked sportswear is surprisingly good, so she could very well be a finalist even though her PR season has been rocky.

     

     The favorites
    The favorite still appears to be Sean Kelly, a young designer who recently arrived in the United States from New Zealand. His collection was on the fringe, with several pieces featuring the tasseled fabric, including a stunning orange frock similar to the blue fringed dress he designed for Heidi Klum to wear to the Creative Emmy Awards presentation in an earlier episode. Half of Kelly's collection is dripping with fringe, which may be too much for the judges.

     

    Hawaiian designer Kini Zamora, a co-favorite all season with his striking designs and lightning-fast construction techniques, showed a disappointing black-and-white collection that lacked the pizzazz of his previous efforts. I'm guessing he didn't make the final cut.

     

    Polarizing Alabama designer Sandhya Garg's collection seemed a little gimmicky — does she really need to spell out "fearless" on the front of her opening dress? — but it has several eye-catching pieces, including a black sequined mini with feathery shoulder pads and, the closer, a metallic tree-like coat over a white dress. And she does have a strong point of view.

     

    The biggest surprise was Amanda Valentine, who veered from her hippy dippy roots with a modern collection that includes a spiffy crocheted tunic over leather pants, flowing colorblocked gowns and nifty two-toned vests.

     

    I'm guessing the final three are Sean, Amanda and Korina (with Sandya or Kini if they add a fourth) and the winner, in a big surprise, is Amanda.

     

    But we'll find out.

     Project Runway airs on Lifetime at 8 pm Thursdays. Repeat episodes are often shown before and afterward on that night.

    Where to shop in Dallas right now: 6 new stores and finds for July

    Summer can often be sleepy when it comes to new store openings, but summer 2025 is not taking a break. This edition of Where to Shop, CultureMap's monthly column of shops and sales, has six new finds, dominated by home decor stores, but also new clothing brands and collections.

    Here's where to shop in Dallas in July 2025:

    Aroma 360
    Home and office fragrance store at Galleria Dallas carries automatic diffusers, reed diffusers, car scents, candles, and sprays. They have a brand new Miami collection, featuring notes like bergamot, pineapple, driftwood, and grapefruit. One signature item is the Mini Pro Scent Diffuser, a $300 automatic diffuser that uses waterless and heatless technology to scent up to 600 square feet.

    Barbie's House
    Barbie Clariday originally founded a home furnishings store in 1999 to serve Houston clients. Now 25 years later, her daughter Jennifer Brown has opened a spinoff in Prosper, offering the same mix of fine furniture, home accessories, gifts, and design services where they'll help find the perfect decorative item or furnish an entire home. They sell bed comforter sets, pillows, chairs, and gifts from brands like Oh My Mahjong and B's Knees candles.

    Conrad Shades
    Luxury window shades brand is now available exclusively inside the Holly Hunt showroom in the Design District. Holly Hunt carries the full catalogue of 150 woven designs, including the recently launched Japanese-inspired Shibui Collection. Highlights include the Indigo and Sakuru shades, crafted from recycled denim fibers, and the Kata shade, which evokes the dying and weaving traditions of Japan.

    OmniThreads 
    Dallas-based clothing brand inspired by spirituality, Greek mythology, and the zodiac is online only, where it sells T-shirts, hoodies, dad hats, and kids shirts. Here's where to get T-shirts for every sign of the Zodiac, from Aries to Pisces, rendered in vivid, graffiti-esque designs and colors. They have an eco-friendly mission, using biodegradable packaging and paperless receipts.

    Sephora
    Beauty chain has opened a location in Allen at the Allen Premium Outlets, next to the Kate Spade store. It's a regular Sephora store, not an outlet, which stocks the usual assortment of cosmetics, skincare, fragrance, and makeup from Glossier, Makeup by Mario, and Summer Fridays. There is no shortage of Sephora locations with 30 in the DFW area including Galleria Dallas, Preston Royal, and Willow Bend in Plano.

    Weekend Academy
    Walmart’s newest private fashion brand fills a space in the fashion market for Gen Alpha, ages 7-14. The tween-specific clothing brand features 65 clothing items for girls and boys including denim, graphic tees, fleece, skirts and dresses, footwear, and accessories, with a majority of items available under $15 and many under $10. Weekend Academy joins Walmart's two other clothing brands for younger shoppers: Wonder Nation brand for kids and No Boundaries brand for Gen Z teens and young adults.
