Pedigreed Oak Lawn manor rings a bell with classic Dallas homebuyers

Every house has a story, and the one at 4403 Rawlins St. is an example of a property whose aesthetic is only matched by its rich Perry Heights history.

The architect for this 1923 construction was Fooshee & Creek, whom you may recognize as the architects for Highland Park Village. The location, too, makes this home a piece of Dallas history. Rawlins Street in Oak Lawn used to be known as Minister's Row, because many local pastors lived here. In fact, the minister of Oak Lawn Methodist once lived at this home, and there is a small bell mounted to the back of the house that was rumored to be the one he used to call parishioners to church on Sunday.

The Georgian-style home, with its symmetrical composition and formal, classical details, has crazy curb appeal thanks to its corner lot location and large front porch accessible via circle drive.

Listing agent Cristine Hazemy says the neighborhood is mostly empty nesters and singles, but that some young families have recently moved in. Nearby Craddock Park offers a playground, a variety of trails, and even tennis courts for a friendly match or two.

"This neighborhood features a small pocket of historic homes," Hazemy says. "There is a friendly vibe here, and you can expect to see your neighbors out and about walking their dogs and waving hello."

This three-bedroom, two and a half bathroom home has 2,904 square feet, including a sunroom and luxurious master suite. The gourmet kitchen has top-of-the-line appliances and plenty of space for people to visit with the family chef while meals are being prepared.

And although most renovations occurred prior to the current owners buying it, Mark Fletcher of DeLeo Fletcher Design helped turn this already charming house into a truly unforgettable home. Make sure to check out the patterned ceiling in the dining room.

Other perks include original hardwoods and chandeliers, Cararra marble in all bathrooms, and a divine pool surrounded by lush landscaping.

The only foreseeable drawback? While it looks rather grand from the outside, this home does only have three bedrooms, which could make the $959,500 price tag a tough pill to swallow. Luckily the property has guest quarters out back that makes hosting friends and family a walk in the park.

The vibe of this house is updated yet classic.

Mrs. Baird’s Bakery family ranch lists for $11M in Texas Hill Country

A famous Hill Country ranch is back on the market, but it’s going to cost its future owner a lot of bread. Baird Ranch, the former home of Mrs. Baird’s Bakery family, has been relisted for $10.955 million, down from its more than $12 million price in 2024.

The 760-acre ranch is located near Johnson City, about 69 miles away from San Antonio. Listing agent West and Swope Ranches says the property is well-suited for both residential and operational use.

Longtime Texans are no doubt familiar with the family brand. Fort Worth founder Ninia "Ninnie" Baird started cooking breads and sweets in 1908 to make income when her husband, William Baird, suffered ill health. Since then, it has become a literal household name in the state and the base of countless peanut butter sandwiches.

The dough dynasty bought the ranch in 1951 and used the land for recreation and raising cattle. The property, located along Miller Creek, hosts deer, turkeys, doves, and quail, making it ideal for hunting. Fishing, swimming, hiking, gardening, and trail riding are available for those who don’t like to shoot.

Baird Ranch includes a foreman’s cabin, guest quarters, barns, storage buildings, and various outbuildings that support day-to-day ranching, but the centerpiece is a ‘50s-era ranch house with Saltillo tile floors. Assumably, there’s at least one oven tucked away in a kitchen.

“Baird Ranch is one of those rare properties that still feels untouched by time,” says West and Swopes owner Louie Swope, in a release. “The live water, incredible elevation, and a location this close to Austin is almost impossible to find at this price point. It’s a true legacy ranch in every sense of the word.”
