    Where to Shop Now

Where to shop in Dallas right now: 10 must-hit stores for November

    Diana Oates
    Nov 13, 2019 | 12:59 pm

It's a busy time of the year for shopping. There are the people who are already knocking out Christmas gift-buying, and then there are those who are just getting around to purchasing their fall and winter wardrobe because the hot weather has finally ended. Whatever camp you fall in, Dallas has lots of options for great shopping this month. Here are some of the best ideas.

    Amazon 4-star
Now open at Stonebriar Centre in Frisco, this store is one of only six locations of its kind in the United States. The store offers some of the most popular items on the Amazon website, including Dallas-specific products. Think everything from Echo dots and small appliances to board games, books, games, and everything in between.

    Bell'Invito
It's time to start putting together your family holiday card, and there is no better place in Dallas to pick up high-quality paper products than this luxurious Design District boutique. Whether you want photo-mounted cards, gift tags, stationery, or monogrammed thank-you notes, this one-stop paper shop is the GOAT (greatest of all time, of course).

    Emma Kelly & Me
Longtime KISS-FM radio host Kellie Rasberry and her 13-year-old daughter, Emma Kelly, have teamed up for a new fashion collection and e-commerce retail site, Emma Kelly & Me. The site launched in late October with a well-edited selection of handbags and "elevated basics" that are high quality, functional, and versatile — all picked by Rasberry herself and all under $100. Since the site's roll-out, they've added a number of new pieces, including a denim jacket, a versatile lace blouse, and an "everyday glam" pleated skirt. Look for even more to come soon, they promise.

    Hush Puppies
Could the Bailey Chukka Boot be the official shoe of the fall? This beautiful boot comes in 17 "Worry-Free Suede" colors, which means you don't have to worry about scuffs, stains, or water. They also are super comfortable, made with "Bounce technology" that allows for the show to retain 97 percent of its cushioning after 250,000 steps. They retail for $109.95 are can be purchased online at Hush Puppies, Nordstrom, Amazon and Zappos.

    JCPenney
A new format of the beloved department store has debuted at Northeast Mall in Hurst and features a coffee shop, fitness classes, and high-tech dressing rooms. The store — which even has a sleek new "Penney's" logo — is organized in a new way that caters to how people spend their time. Categories include All Day, On Point, Move, Chill, and Shine. To showcase the new store, events are being held in store through November 24.

    La Ligne Pop-up Shop
Now through Christmas, enjoy the brand's first physical presence in Dallas at Market in Highland Park Village. The company, which was founded in 2016 on the universal appeal of the stripe as a timeless wardrobe staple, offers luxury, high-quality products without exorbitant prices. The pop-up will sell the newly launched Fall 2019 collection consisting of leopard, floral, and lace dresses and separates and cozy knits, as well as perennial styles. Prices range from $65 to $595. The pop-up will be open from 10 am-6 pm Monday through Saturday and 12-5 pm on Sundays through Christmas.

    Max Mara Pop-up
The beloved brand is popping up to showcase its ready-to-wear and accessories collection at 100 Highland Park Village for a very limited time. Located on the second floor, the pop-up takes place from November 20-23 only. It will house classic garments including cashmere knits, silk blouses, and tailored suiting options, in addition to a selection of elegant eveningwear options and standout handbag and footwear styles. It also will feature the iconic Max Mara Teddy Bear Coat. New for Fall/Winter 2019, the Teddy Bear coat is reimagined in a bold color palette of turquoise, coral, and cornflower blue, the brand says.

    Nickel & Suede
Leather earrings are set to make their Dallas debut at the end of the month. This husband-and-wife-run company is coming from Kansas City and opening a boutique across from J. Crew in the West Village. Gone are the days when quality craftsmanship in the jewelry arena has to revolve around heavy metals. These chic statement pieces are made of leather and offer a gorgeous option for those who want a quality earring without the weight. The earrings come in a variety of colors and sizes and range in price from just $25 to $35.

    Planet Blue
New location, same great boho brands from this California-based boutique. They're known for laid-back yet luxurious clothes for the girl with Malibu on her mind. The new, 2,400-square-foot Dallas flagship store is now open in its new digs at 3699 McKinney Ave., between Abi Ferrin and Kendra Scott in West Village. The company also plans to introduce a new loyalty program that rewards shoppers for their holiday purchases.

    Sandro
Located in NorthPark Center on level one between Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom, this Parisian brand is sure to be a big hit this holiday shopping season. Founder Evelyne Chetrite is on quest to offer clothing for women and men that is on trend yet sophisticated. The Fall/Winter women's collection shows that tweed is a popular pick here, and there's nothing not to like about that.

Rare Halston fashion exhibition now on display in unlikely Texas city

A rare exhibition honoring fashion pioneer Halston has popped up in an unexpected place: West Texas. Dallas fashionistas who are fans of the designer can make a five-hour pilgrimage to Odessa’s newly revamped Ellen Noël Art Museum to view "Halston: Inventing American Fashion."

Halston’s minimalistic fashions are rarely the subjects of retrospectives, although the designer’s dramatic life story recently had a pop-cultural resurgence through a 2021 Ryan Murphy miniseries. "Halston: Inventing American Fashion" assesses the talent that made him a household name.

Known now for outfitting 1970s icons like Liza Minelli and Bianca Jagger, Halston changed the international reputation of American sportswear as part of the famous 1973 “Battle of Versailles” fashion show, holding his own against Paris’ most lauded couturiers. His uniquely louche style still influences contemporary brands like Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen, and Tom Ford, who was briefly the creative director for a revised Halston label.

The mannequins in the Odessa display are outfitted with 75 ensembles from flowing Ultrasuede daywear to more dramatic draped gowns. The pieces “illustrate how Halston revolutionized fashion by prioritizing comfort, confidence, and modern femininity,” according to a release.

Although Odessa may seem an odd choice for the show, Halston had deep Texas connections. After he moved on from hat making, Amarillo millionaire Estelle Marsh was his sole backer willing to fund his first Madison Avenue boutique.

And the recently completed renovation of Odessa's Ellen Noël Art Museum has some of the designer’s signature sleek. Designed by architect R.J. Lopez, the renovation includes new galleries and improved circulation, but the centerpiece is a striking transparent façade, replacing the original brick of the 1985 building.

“The renovation project has been over 10 years in the making and in the construction phase for the past two years,” says the museum’s buildings manager, Steve Patton, via a release. “The completion of the project has resulted in an incredible facility that is a shining star in West Texas, offering programs and exhibits that will be a destination point for people all over the world!”

"Halston: Inventing American Fashion" will run through March 22. Admission to the Ellen Noël Art Museum is free.
