Pecan Lodge departure and deadly lion attack top 5 most popular stories this week

    Jennifer Chininis
    Nov 23, 2013 | 9:08 am

Editor's note: Another week has come and gone, and there's a lot we all probably missed. But we're looking out for you, kid. Here are the most popular stories from this past week:

    1. Pecan Lodge departs Dallas Farmers Market for historic Deep Ellum. After much city-wide hand-wringing and angst — and after being courted by other cities — renowned Dallas BBQ joint Pecan Lodge has settled on a new location: Deep Ellum. Owners Diane and Justin Fourton have signed a lease for a spot on Main Street, where they'll relocate from their stand at the Dallas Farmers Market.

    2. Deadly lion attack confounds Dallas Zoo officials. In yet another questionable tragedy at the Dallas Zoo, a female lion was killed by two male lions, in full view of spectators. Zoo officials called the killing "quick," but attendees told NBC that it went on for 10 to 15 minutes until the female lion became lifeless.

    3. JFK assassination footage like you've never seen before. Images of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy are never far from mind in Dallas, but a new video attempts to strip away some of the chaos of the November tragedy. The two-minute video sets the scene with images of the crowd at Dealey Plaza and a police escort before the president and first lady drive past the grassy knoll.

    4. Indie art fans swarm Dallas warehouse for frenzied Art Con 9 fundraiser. It was an oddly warm November evening when hordes of Dallas art-lovers, artists and music fans flocked to a warehouse just beyond Trinity Groves for Art Con 9. The annual art-slash-music fundraiser aims to make art affordable for everyone while benefiting a local nonprofit. This year's beneficiary was My Possibilities.

    5. True Food Kitchen previews kale and quinoa burgers as Dallas opening day looms. Days before its November 19 opening in Dallas' Preston Center, True Food Kitchen hosted a giant media cattle call to preview its menu of au courant foodie trends. The menu, devised by author Dr. Andrew Weil, accommodates all your special-interest eating tribes including celiacs, Paleoliths, vegetarians and vegans.

International tour billed as the longest drone show ever hits Dallas

An event billed as the longest touring drone show ever staged is coming to Dallas. (Well, Forney.) Called DroneArt Show: A Music Concert and Drone Show, it will feature drones in the sky with musicians on the ground performing classical music, and will take place on November 1 on The Lawn at the OC in Forney.

Presented by Fever, the global live-entertainment discovery platform, the event will incorporate 500+ illuminated drones choreographed to live performances of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.

A release says the display will transform the night sky into a "living work of art." Tickets are on sale now via the Fever app and official website.

Dallas is but one stop on a tour that is also hitting Los Angeles, New Orleans, Phoenix, and Tampa as well as international cities such as Naples, Italy and Perth, Australia. It definitely sounds fabulous although DFW is home to drone pioneer Sky Elements, which surely makes us a little more drone-savvy than some of those towns. We've seen drones.

The 65-minute open-air experience will blend classical music, advanced drone technology, and immersive storytelling for an evening that combines spectacle and serenity, with hundreds of drones dancing across the sky in time with the music — forming blooming flowers, twinkling stars, and graceful swans.

The aerial performance itself spans about 45 minutes of continuous flight, in harmony with a live quartet below.

Attendees are encouraged to make a night of it: Come early for onsite food and beverage options and grab a great viewing spot before the show begins.

There are currently tickets for the Picnic Area, no seating, but ticketholders can bring blankets and pillows (no outside chairs, however), for $52.90. (There were also VIP tickets but those are already mysteriously sold out.)

DroneArt Show, located at The Lawn at the OC, also known as Opportunity Central, a Forney ISD facility with a 6,500-seat arena located at 680 Innovation Blvd. November 1 at 7:30 pm.
