The Dallas Museum of Art consistently draws in big names for its Arts & Letters Live series, and the slate for 2015 will be no different, as it features a variety of big-name writers, some of whom are known more for their non-writing careers.
The season, running January through June, will include 29 distinct dates, starting on Monday, January 12, with one of two Texas Bound events, which feature actors doing dramatic readings of others' work.
Doris Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond), Glenn Morshower (24, Dallas), Dallas Theater Center's Chamblee Ferguson, Lydia Mackay and Sally Nystuen Vahle will read stories by Dallas authors David Haynes, Clay Reynolds, Betty Wiesepape, and Kevin Sutton and Bret Anthony Johnston.
Other highlights of the season include the following:
- New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast talking about her memoir, Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant?
- Ina Garten, aka the Barefoot Contessa, sharing tips, stories and recipes
- Actors James Naughton, Mary Kay Place and Jane Kaczmarek reading stories by Louise Erdrich, Maile Meloy and Kurt Vonnegut
- Dennis Lehane talking about his new crime book, World Gone By
- Poet Billy Collins and singer/songwriter Aimee Mann teaming up to talk about their art and creative process
- Candice Bergen revealing more of herself with her new memoir, A Fine Romance
Most events will take place in the Horchow Auditorium at the DMA, but other venues will include Winspear Opera House, McFarlin Memorial Auditorium on the SMU campus and First Presbyterian Church in downtown Dallas.
Tickets for all dates are now on sale through the DMA site and usually range from $15 to $35, although those labeled as Fresh Ink events are free, and other special events run higher.
Doris Roberts, best known for Everybody Loves Raymond, will be one of several actors reading selections at the first event of the 2015 Arts & Letters Live season.
