Vogel Alcove's mission is to help young children and their families overcome the lasting and traumatic effects of homelessness. The vision is that every child in the community has a home, a self-sufficient family, and a foundation for success in school and life. The Vogel Alcove team uses a two-generation system, working to break the cycle that keeps families in poverty through generations. The programs include trauma-informed early-childhood development and it's an NAECY-certified facility. There is also a family support program, mental health program, and health program that ensures the children remain healthy with a nurse practitioner on site. There is also a certified Nature Explore classroom that offers an all-natural outdoor playground with therapeutic and USDA-certified farm-to-preschool gardens.
You can get involved with donations, monetary and in-kind, or by building bye-bye bags, a daily snack bag sent home with the children to ensure they have something to eat when they leave Vogel Alcove each day. You can sign up for volunteer opportunities at the facility. Volunteers are needed at the events, specifically Day 1 DFW, an annual event.
There are usually three signature events each year. The Blue Bird Bash in the fall, an annual fall fundraiser and networking event. Day 1 DFW, an annual family fair and fireworks show that takes place on New Year's Day. It includes all-access to seven Main Event locations in the DFW, magic shows, animal shows, clown acts, and more. Everything culminates in the evening with a gigantic fireworks show.
