Midnight's Children, directed by Deepa Mehta and written by Salman Rushdie, follows the fates of a pair of children born at the stroke of midnight on August 15, 1947, the very moment that India gained its independence from Great Britain. Switched at birth, Saleem and Shiva are destined to live out lives intended for each other, until their mysterious telekinetic powers draw them closer together. With the flow of time, the childrens’ turbulent and hopeful lives begin to mirror that of their nascent nation.
