Sanitarium blends together the maddening stories of three mental institution patients, tied together by Dr. Stenson (Malcolm McDowell), the primary physician at the Sanitarium institution, who comments on the recent arrival of the patients. As Dr. Stenson speaks, the individual’s back story begins, and we see in frightening detail what lead them to their crazed states of mind.
