Joyeux Noel is based on the true story of a Christmas truce during the first year of World War I. The film depicts the event through a small section of the frontline, inhabited by French, Scottish and German soldiers who defy the orders of their superiors to meet with one another in "No Man's Land" to lay rest to the carnage of war for that one evening. Nominated for the Best Foreign Language Academy Award in 2005, Chrisitan Carion's film is a look at the beautiful idea of peace in the middle of a devastating war.
