Texas literary icon Larry McMurtry will releases his new novel, The Last Kind Words Saloon, at the latest Arts & Letters Live. McMurtry will discuss his new work, his creative process, and his passion for book collecting, taking the stage with Diana Ossana, author and long-time collaborator with McMurtry, who co-wrote the Oscar-winning screenplay for Brokeback Mountain. Jake Silverstein, Editor in Chief of Texas Monthly, will moderate the conversation. An actor will read excerpts from the novel.
McMurtry’s first novel in five years echoes many of his earlier works, including his Pulitzer Prize-winning Lonesome Dove. The Last Kind Words Saloon is a “fictional retelling of the friendship between Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, set against an Old West backdrop of barrooms, brothels, and cattle ranches.” —New York Times
