2014 Big D Reads Festival

To further celebrate the joy of reading and to finish the program on a strong note, Big D Reads invites readers of all ages to Klyde Warren Park for a celebration of all forms of storytelling complete with crafts, opera and theater performances and a movie screening. The event will also include a discussion with The Outsiders author, S.E. Hinton, and movie producer, Gary Frederickson.

Schedule of Events

10:30 am: Children’s programming including crafts and a read-a-loud of S.E. Hinton’s The Puppy Sister in the children’s park.

11 am-2 pm: Literacy Coalition to set up various tables with activities and workshops for childrens of all ages. The Coalition is made up of the Dallas Public Library, Readers2Leaders, Literacy Instruction for Texas (LIFT), VMLC, Commit!, SMU CCE, Paws for Literacy and Big Thought.

1 pm: Panel discussion with S.E. Hinton and Gary Fredrickson. Krys Boyd of KERA will moderate.

3:30-4 pm: Dallas Opera family performance featuring excerpts from The Elixir of Love.

5:30 p.m.: Undermain Theater dramatic reading and original composition based on The Outsiders.

8 pm: Movie screening of The Outsiders.
