John (Mark Strong) is a recently widowed man with the extraordinary ability to enter people's minds. Desperate for an assignment, John jumps into a new case involving a brilliant and troubled girl, Anna (Taissa Farmiga), to decide whether she is a victim or a dangerous sociopath.
