In 1958, in the wake of the Hungarian revolution, two armed men storm the Hungarian embassy in Bern, Switzerland.
In The Ambassador to Bern, screenwriter Norbert Köbli takes a real-life event and skillfully weaves an intricate and compelling tale of what could have happened that day. The lines between good and evil begin to blur as motivations are revealed, and a battle of wits quickly emerges among the characters. When all is said and done, who will come out on top…and at what cost?
Attila Szász’s directorial debut is a briskly paced and tightly shot political thriller. Both smart and riveting, The Ambassador to Bern is essentially an entertaining demonstration of how oppression can lead to revolution.
