For 60 years, legendary actor Hal Holbrook has performed his award-winning one-man show, Mark Twain Tonight!, for millions around the world. His performance has become an icon of American theater.

In Holbrook/Twain: An American Odyssey, director Scott Teems presents a charming and intimate backstage look at Holbrook and his transformation into character. Holbook’s dedication to Twain is obvious: in one scene, he shares his copious notes of every performance he’s ever given. Material is never repeated in the same town. Holbrook recalls his many years on the road, the highs and lows of performances, and the toll his career took on his family and relationships.

With candid interviews from Sean Penn, Martin Sheen, Cherry Jones, Emilie Hirsch and others, Holbrook/Twain elegantly explores the idea of Twain’s influence on American culture today and offers a fascinating celebration of Holbrook’s finest work.
