The South Asian Film Festival will present the U.S. premiere of Rough Book as their closing night film. The film takes a hard look at the education system in India in 2014. Even though India has one of the finest systems in the world, the lacunae in the system has created issues that were non-existent 15 years ago which are now threatening to clog the channels of learning in contemporary India today.

This story is told through the eyes of a teacher who rallies through a divorce with a corrupt income tax officer to become a teacher of physics in a school. Her pupils are in the D division - "D" sarcastically referred to as "duffers" within the school by both the students and other teachers.

Find out how the teacher rebels against the system to fight for her students so they can pass the entrance examinations into the Indian Institute of Technology. This is a simply told story, yet completely thought-provoking, devoid of any melodrama and almost gentle in its telling.

A special Q&A with the director & cast members will follow the screening.
