2016 Stars & Stripes Luncheon and Film Festival

Sons of the Flag, an organization committed to supporting military, first responder, and civilian burn survivors, will hold their third annual Stars & Stripes Luncheon presented by Clay Cooley Auto Group, Luncheon Chairman Mary Humphreys Parker and Honorary Chairs Nancy and David Burgher will take place on Veteran’s Day, to kick off their unique military focused film festival.

United States Congressman Sam Johnson is this year's luncheon keynote speaker. Congressman Johnson is a decorated war hero and native Texan and ranks among the few Members of Congress to fight in combat. During his 29-year career in the U.S. Air Force, Representative Johnson flew combat missions in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He endured nearly seven years as a prisoner of war in Hanoi, including 42 months in solitary confinement. A decorated combat veteran and war hero, Johnson was awarded two Silver Stars, two Legions of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, one Bronze Star with Valor, two Purple Hearts, four Air Medals, and three Outstanding Unit Awards.

Additionally, at the luncheon, Sons of the Flag will present the first Legacy Award to Dr. Stephen Burgher, a lead physician at the Baylor Scott & White Health Center, and a Marine Corps trauma team leader at a military medical unit in Afghanistan.

The Stars & Stripes Film Festival will continue to celebrate our Nation’s Finest as represented in film at Highland Park Village Theatre Nov 11-13. This year’s lineup and special guest speakers are:

  • 4 pm - South Pacific | Speaker: Sean Griffin
