The 22nd Annual Butterfly Flutterby, sponsored by the Grapevine Garden Club, Cook Children’s Healthcare System, the City of Grapevine Parks & Recreation Department and the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau, celebrates the migration of the monarch butterfly from Canada to Mexico by way of Grapevine. This year’s theme is “Plant America for Monarchs” and stresses the importance of cultivating a habitat where monarch butterflies can thrive.
The Butterfly Costume Parade will kick off the colorful celebrations. The half-mile parade route starts at West Hudgins and Main Streets in the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau parking lot and ends at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park. Children and pets are invited to wear their favorite butterfly costume. Prizes will be awarded for the best costume by age group (children only), as well as a Best Group prize for best costumes for adults and/or children in a group. Registration for the Costume Parade begins at 8:45 am, and starts at 10 am.
After the parade, the festival will feature butterfly crafts, butterfly exhibits, the Science Station, interactive games, a scavenger hunt, face painting, and more. There will be live butterfly releases at 10:45 am, 11:45 am, and 12:30 pm, with a final release taking place at Nash Farm at 1:30 pm.
Admission to the event is free, however, some activities may require a fee. Concessions and refreshments will be available for purchase.
