RFD-TV’s The American will become a two-day event, making it the richest weekend in western sports at AT&T Stadium. The American will add Break-Away Roping and a #9 Team Roping in 2019. The rodeo will be sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and will add $355,000 in additional prize money. The American will have final qualification rounds on Saturday March 2, and the finals round on Sunday, March 3.

The PRCA is recognized as the unsurpassed leader in sanctioning the sport of professional rodeo and hosts the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) – the ultimate championship for the cowboy. Points earned at The American will count towards NFR qualification.
The American Western Weekend features four action-packed nights and 11 western sporting disciplines. It's a one-of kind celebration of the sports and spirit of the American West, featuring the sport’s greatest athletes in the ultimate high-stakes showdown.
The event kicks off on Wednesday, March 8 with the The American Rodeo Contender Wild Card where 126 athletes qualifying from the Regional Tournament will vie for the final spot to the Contender Finals
At The American Rodeo Contender Tournament Finals on Thursday, March 9, regional winners will compete to make it to The American Rodeo on Saturday night. It will be followed by a special concert from country star Maren Morris.
The American Performance Horseman on Friday, March 10 is a first-of-its-kind event to celebrate the elegance and excellence of western equine performance sports, and the athletes who ride these powerful quarter horses. Following the event will be a concert featuring Sheryl Crow and Darius Rucker.
Finally on Saturday, March 11 is The American Rodeo, the grand finale of The American Western Weekend, where champion athletes and underdog “Contenders” compete for $1 million. After the event will be a concert by Cody Johnson.
