Hubertus Q. Winnubst’s work is an expression of internal and purely visceral response to the “moment,” as it unfolds during the act of creation. For him, image-making is the result of an intuitive process that reacts to the stimuli within and around his environment; thoughts, fears, joys, and passions as they unfold. He is informed by the seasons, music, and the environment of the world in which he is a participant. An evolving human, surrounded by an evolving world and his reactions to this world are what he strives to reveal on his canvases.
Winnubst is Dutch by birth and has traveled extensively throughout the West and Southwest. In particular, he is moved by the expanses, both intimate and monumental, of the environment surrounding Taos, New Mexico, where he has established a studio. There, he found himself enveloped by an almost magical “presence.” That presence invigorates and refreshes him. It compels the artist to engage in expressive acts; to make his art.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through October 18.
