Newberry award-winning children’s author Karen Cushman will celebrate the 20th anniversary of her beloved book Catherine, Called Birdy, which continues to be a favorite among young adults and their parents. Her other books include Will Sparrow’s Road, The Midwife’s Apprentice and The Ballad of Lucy Whipple. She especially likes writing about gutsy girls in various historical eras who are figuring out who they are. Cushman, who did not start writing full-time until her fiftieth birthday, has founded the Karen and Philip Cushman Late Bloomer Award to encourage and celebrate late bloomers like her.

A book signing will follow the event.
