Misty Copeland/Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/mistycopeland]
When Misty Copeland first placed her hands on the barre at an after-school community center, no one expected that the 5'2", anxious 13-year-old in baggy gym shorts to become one of America's greatest classical ballerinas. But she did just that. In 2007, she made history by becoming the third African American soloist at the American Ballet Theatre, and the first in decades. At this event, Copeland will discuss her new memoir, Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina, which tells a uniquely American story of perseverance and achievement in the face of extreme challenges.
A book signing will follow the event.
