Daughter of a Daughter of a Queen shines light on a nearly forgotten figure in history. Cathy Williams was born and lived as a slave, until the Union army destroyed the only world she’s known. Separated from her family, she makes the impossible decision to disguise herself as a man and fight with the legendary Buffalo Soldiers. With courage and wit, Cathy must not only fight for her survival and freedom in a man’s world, but never give up on her mission to find her family, and the man she loves.

Sarah Bird is the author of ten novels, including The Gap Year, Above the East China Sea, and The Yokota Officers Club. Bird has been selected for the Meryl Streep Screenwriting Lab, the Barnes & Noble Discover Great Writers program, NPR's Moth Radio series, the Dobie Paisano Fellowship, the Texas Literary Hall of Fame, and the Texas Institute of Letters Lifetime Achievement Award.
